APMEX Once Again Teamed Up With the Regional Food Bank
APMEX, a leading online Precious Metals retailer based in Oklahoma City, once again teamed up with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to fight hunger in the state. Through participation in the nonprofit’s annual Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers’ Food and Fund Drive, APMEX raised enough food and funds to provide more than 504,000 meals for Oklahomans who face hunger every day.
According to the Regional Food Bank, one in six Oklahomans struggles with hunger or has limited access to enough food to lead a healthy life. This makes Oklahoma one of the hungriest states in the nation. The Regional Food Bank provides enough food to feed more than 126,000 Oklahomans every week but it is still not enough to fill the need.
APMEX Founder and President Scott Thomas knows what it is like to struggle with inconsistent access to food. As a teen, Thomas worked at a pizza parlor and brought home leftover pizza for his family to eat since they had nothing else. He believes no family should wonder where their next meal will come from.
“Helping provide meals by donating and volunteering to those who need them the most is very important to me and my family. This is our third year to participate as a company by holding a weeklong food and fund drive and it has become a meaningful cause for many employees at APMEX. For anyone willing and able to help, whether through donations or physically volunteering at your local Food Bank, I invite everyone to participate and make a difference in your community,” Thomas said.
In 2016, APMEX raised enough donations to provide more than 158,000 meals through the Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers’ Food and Fund Drive, including 1,367 pounds of food. In an effort to increase their impact in 2017, APMEX set a goal to provide 175,000 meals to Oklahomans who struggle with hunger.
“APMEX and its employees are committed to helping us fight hunger in Oklahoma,” Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma CEO Katie Fitzgerald said. “We are so thankful for their continued support. It means so much to our neighbors who face hunger every day.”
Every dollar donated to the Regional Food Bank provides five meals; this year, APMEX’s contribution of $100,884.30 will provide a total of 504,421 meals for Oklahomans who need it most. APMEX held many different contests during the week to raise money for the Feeding Hope and Letter Carriers’ Food and Fund Drive, ranging from raffles to costume contests and silent auctions.
