Gold Eagle Design
The obverse design showcases a rendition of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ artwork of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with the Capitol building in the background. The design is taken from the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold coin, which was commissioned by Theodore Roosevelt to create coins like the ancient Greek and Roman coins.
The reverse design, by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.
The United States Mint has unveiled the new reverse designs for the 2021 American Eagle Gold coins. 2021 marks the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Coin program, and the new designs will begin appearing on these coins in mid-year 2021.
Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris created the new Gold coin design that was sculpted by Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon. The new reverse design depicts a portrait of an eagle.
